I came across this case recently, and something that's been on my mind is the impact these tragic events must have had on the LGBTQ+ community in the Hampton Roads area during that time. It's truly unsettling to think about the fear and suspicion they must have lived with, knowing there was a serial killer specifically targeting gay men. Robert A. Neal’s murder and those of the other victims sent shockwaves through these communities, where people were already battling stigma and discrimination. How terrifying it must have been to socialize openly or frequent areas like Ocean View, with that constant worry in the back of their minds. I really hope that sharing their stories keeps the memory of Robert and the other victims alive, not just to honor them, but as a reminder of the struggles faced by marginalized communities. It’s important we learn from these dark chapters to better protect and support vulnerable groups in the present and future. Sending love to all who've been affected by this case. ❤️
