What's really been haunting me about Margaret Pait's story is just how unsuspecting she must have been in the days leading up to that horrible event. I keep thinking about Margaret's friendships and how being friends with the wrong person can have such extreme consequences. It's terrifying to realize she might have trusted Phillip Jablonski just because of his connection to her friend, Carol Spadoni. How could anyone imagine that someone so close could end up betraying that trust in such a brutal way? My heart aches for her family and friends, who must live with the haunting knowledge that this was someone Margaret knew. It just shows how hyper-vigilant we have to be sometimes, sadly, even around those we think we know well. Let's hope that by discussing these cases, we can somehow help prevent similar tragedies in the future.
