I've been reading up on the case of Benjamin Pitezel and it's incredibly disturbing to think about how badly he was betrayed by Holmes. Can you imagine trusting someone with such a dangerous plan only to have them turn on you like that? It’s horrifying to consider the terror and confusion Benjamin must have felt when Holmes decided to murder him instead of following through with their scheme. And then to think of his poor children, who were also victims of Holmes’ monstrous actions, is just so devastating. How does someone become so remorseless? It really makes you wonder how many more lives Holmes could have destroyed if he hadn't been stopped. My heart goes out to any descendants of the Pitezel family who are still grappling with the historical impact of these heinous crimes. Every detail of this case is more chilling than the last.
