Has anyone else been struck by how Alton was manipulated by George upon his return home? It’s chilling to think that after surviving that horrendous night while away in Clovis, he came back to a false sense of normalcy. The fact that George shared a meal with Alton, all the while knowing his gruesome intentions, reveals a disturbing level of deceit and cold-bloodedness. What must have been going through Alton’s mind, if only he had any inkling? It's a harsh reminder of how betrayal can come from the people we should trust the most. My heart goes out to Alton and the rest of the family whose lives were cruelly cut short; the aftermath of such a betrayal must have been devastating for anyone who survived them.
Did anyone else find it particularly haunting how Alton Hassell was deceived by George upon his return home? I can't imagine the sheer terror and confusion he must have felt if he ever sensed something was wrong, even if just subconsciously. George's evil not only destroyed an entire family but added such a chilling layer of betrayal by making Alton feel like nothing unusual was happening. Alton was just a young man coming back from work, trying to make a living, and had dinner with someone who he believed to be family—only to meet such a cruel fate hours later. My heart goes out to anyone who knew Alton; it must be devastating to lose someone in such an incomprehensible way.
