I’ve been thinking a lot about the John Powell case and Donald Harvey’s role in it. What’s really striking is how perception plays such a huge role in cases like these. Initially, people might have just seen a compassionate caregiver, but the reality was so vastly different. It’s chilling to think that families trusted this person with their loved ones, believing they were in safe hands. It must be incredibly painful for Powell’s family to process the betrayal, knowing that someone responsible for his care was the one who ended his life. And then there’s Harvey’s defense of it being a "mercy killing." It’s baffling and infuriating, especially considering many victims weren’t even terminally ill. As we discuss this case, let’s not forget about the strength Powell’s family must have needed to endure such a harrowing revelation. They deserve all the empathy and support we can offer.
