I’ve been following the devastating case of Cassandra Harrington and her family, and something that’s been weighing on my mind is the decision to release Paul Harrington after such a short psychiatric treatment back in 1977. It's shocking to think that just two months were deemed sufficient for someone who committed such horrific acts. I can’t imagine the agony and frustration the victims' families must have felt, thinking that justice wasn’t served. Cases like this make you question how the system evaluates the risk posed by individuals with severe mental health issues. You wonder if more robust measures could have prevented the loss of more innocent lives later on. My heart goes out to those affected by these tragedies. We really need to have a serious conversation about improving our mental health and legal systems to prevent such circumstances from happening again.
