Gurholdt made that journey all the way from Scandinavia, Wisconsin, looking for love and a new beginning, only to have his life senselessly cut short. And what’s chilling is the notion that people might genuinely have believed Gunness was merely an unfortunate woman who’d lost her family in a fire, before the truth came out about her heinous actions. It's hard not to imagine how devastated and confused Gurholdt's family must have been, waiting for answers that took years to come. Paying tribute to the victims by remembering their stories and discussing them helps ensure their lives are not forgotten. Does anyone know if there were efforts by local communities or churches back then to support the families of the victims, or any memorials raised to honor them later on?
