It's so difficult to imagine the fear and confusion John Mowery must have experienced. Just having returned from 18 months with the Marines, a time typically marked by a sense of accomplishment and looking forward to new beginnings, only to end up falling into the hands of someone as monstrous as John Wayne Gacy, is beyond tragic. As a young man in his late teens, the world should have been opening up with possibilities for John, not closing down in such a horrifying manner.
I can't stop thinking about that phone call to his girlfriend, which haunts me. He mentioned an accident—what did he mean? Was it a desperate attempt to reach out, or was he trying to make sense of what was happening to him?
The fact that he's "Body #20" in such a gruesome catalog of victims illustrates the sheer volume of Gacy's horrific acts. Yet, it's crucial to remember these weren't just numbers, but young men with families and futures. John deserves to be remembered not just as a victim, but for who he was in life—a young Marine, a son, a boyfriend.
Sending my deepest condolences to John's loved ones and all families affected by Gacy's atrocities. The least we can do is to ensure their stories aren't forgotten.
I've been thinking a lot about the family of John Antheney Mowery. It's beyond difficult to fathom the anguish they must have experienced, first learning of his disappearance and then discovering the horrific truth of what happened to him. Can you imagine the weight of not knowing where your loved one is, only to find out that they were a victim of such a notorious killer? It's truly devastating.
What really strikes me is the call John made to his girlfriend about an "accident." It leaves me wondering what that was about and if it was connected to his encounter with Gacy. Was it a cry for help or just a detail of that night we’ll never fully understand? This case still raises so many questions all these years later. If anyone has more insights or theories about that particular night, I'd love to hear them. My heart goes out to John's family and everyone affected by Gacy’s horrific actions.
