I can't stop thinking about the role of mental illness in the tragic Fisher family case. The more I learn about paranoid schizophrenia, the more complex and heartbreaking this whole situation seems. It's hard to imagine the mental anguish Constance must have been going through to believe that drowning her children was somehow saving them from evil. What stands out to me is the difficulty of treating mental illness effectively during that time. The lack of understanding and appropriate long-term support makes me wonder if things might have been different with today's medical advances. Those poor children, innocent and full of life, deserved so much better. My thoughts are with the extended family members who had to navigate this repeated tragedy, dealing with unimaginable loss while probably also trying to support Constance as someone they loved. It's a harsh reminder of the necessity for ongoing mental health awareness and intervention, especially for those who might be struggling in silence.
