I've been thinking a lot about Mary Ellen O'Connor's case and am struck by the challenges law enforcement faced back then. In today's world, we have so many tools like DNA analysis and digital records that can assist in pinpointing a suspect. But in the early 1930s, detectives were working with far less. It's chilling to think about how this impacted cases like Mary Ellen's. Albert Fish being in the area makes it hard to ignore the possibility of his involvement, yet the lack of concrete evidence left those pursuing justice for Mary Ellen without answers. It's frustrating to imagine her family and community living with so many unanswered questions. I wish there had been a way to resolve Mary Ellen's case, not just for closure's sake but to bring some semblance of peace to the O'Connor family and all who knew her. Sadly, it serves as a reminder of the limitations of the era and the pain that lingers on when a case remains unsolved.
