I’ve been thinking a lot about Patricia Smith’s case, especially after learning about the circumstances of her murder. The way her daughter and grandchildren found her is so deeply tragic—I can’t even begin to imagine the trauma they must have endured. For a family to stumble upon such a scene, and then have to live with that memory for so many years without answers or justice, is just unimaginable. And then, after all those years, the tide finally turns with the arrest and conviction of Ewing. While it’s a relief that justice was eventually served, I’m struck by how this outcome took nearly four decades to achieve. It’s a cruel reminder of how slow and arduous the quest for justice can be, especially when families are left to pick up the pieces without closure. I also wonder about the community’s response, both back then and now. How do people rebuild that sense of safety, knowing a monster was among them all those years ago? My heart truly goes out to Patricia's loved ones—here’s hoping they have found some semblance of peace now.

I've been following the Patricia Smith case and wanted to share some thoughts about the impact on her daughter and grandchildren who found her. It's unimaginable what they went through that day. Discovering a loved one in such a state is a trauma that never completely fades. I can't help but wonder about the support they received in the immediate aftermath. Finding the right resources and counseling must have been crucial, but back in the 1980s, these weren't as readily available as they are today. I also think about how they lived with this shadow for so many years. Every step toward resolution was likely a mix of hope and dread. Though justice has finally been served with Ewing's conviction, the journey must have been incredibly trying. I hope that they have been able to find some form of healing and peace. No family should have to endure what they did, and my heart goes out to them as they continue to navigate life in the wake of such a tragedy.
