Hi everyone, I've been digging into the Curtis family tragedy from 1938, and I came across something I thought was worth sharing. It’s about James Travis Curtis, the only surviving child from that horrible night. I can’t even begin to imagine the emotional burden he must have carried throughout his life. I found it interesting, yet incredibly sad, that James was the one who had to alert Sheriff J.B. Sample after his mother committed the unthinkable. He was just 16 years old and had to process such a traumatic event while also taking on such a heavy responsibility. Despite everything he went through, he later went on to serve in World War II. It really speaks to his resilience and strength, though I’m sure the memories haunted him. I hope sharing this helps us remember not just the crime but also the impact on lives like James's. It’s all a stark reminder of the lasting effects these events have on survivors. My thoughts are with those who suffered in the aftermath, especially James, who had to live with this sorrow all his life. Any thoughts on how we can better support survivors in situations where they're thrust into unimaginable circumstances? I'd love to hear your insights.
