I recently came across information about the murder of Sydney Lee Monzon, and it’s been weighing heavily on my mind. Born and raised in Eastham, Sydney seemed to have her whole life ahead of her after graduating from Nauset Regional High School. The fact that her life was cut short in such a horrific manner is just incomprehensible. I can't even imagine the pain her family must have gone through. What really struck me was how the community came together during such a difficult time. It's a testament to the human spirit to see how people supported each other when faced with the horror that someone like Antone Costa brought into their lives. I was particularly moved by how the jurors actually went to the site in Truro where the bodies were found during the trial. It must have been incredibly difficult, but their courage helped bring justice to Sydney and the other victims. I think it's essential to remember Sydney and the other victims not just for how they died, but for who they were. It's easy to get caught up in the gruesome details, but behind those headlines were real people with hopes, dreams, and families who loved them. Does anyone have stories or memories they'd like to share about Sydney? It would be nice to honor her memory by remembering her life, not just her tragic end.
