Wow, every time I read more about the Rogers family, I can't help but think about how they must have felt when they realized something was horribly wrong. It’s so hard to imagine how a family vacation ended in such a devastating way. I was just reading about how Oba Chandler convinced them to take that boat ride with him. It feels so surreal that someone was able to mask such malicious intent under the guise of innocent hospitality. What's particularly chilling is how easy it seemed for Chandler to exploit the family’s trust. Their story stresses how important it is to be cautious even during something as seemingly normal as meeting a local while on vacation. Joan, Christe, and Michelle didn’t deserve what happened to them, and it’s such a horrible reminder of how some people can hide their true intentions. Thinking of the pain that the rest of their family and friends went through—and still go through—is really difficult. It just breaks your heart. Chandler’s execution in 2011 doesn't erase the trauma of what happened, but I hope it brings some small measure of justice. Sending thoughts to the Rogers extended family and everyone who’s been touched by this tragedy.
