I've been reading up on the Glenn Barker case, and something that stands out to me is the unimaginable impact this tragedy must have had on his family and friends. It's devastating to think about the fear and pain he endured in those last moments, and my heart goes out to those who loved him. During those times, hitchhiking was seen as a fairly routine activity, especially for teenagers looking for a bit of independence or adventure. I imagine Glenn was just like any other 14-year-old exploring life but was unfortunately caught up in the path of such evil. It makes you reflect on how innocent actions can have dire consequences and how important it is to educate ourselves and others about personal safety. The idea that someone like William Bonin could be lurking about is terrifying. It's a harrowing reminder of how vulnerable young people can be to predators. Does anyone else think that cases like these changed how society views hitchhiking and personal safety? How do we balance caution and trust in our communities?
