I can't stop thinking about the aftermath of the Burke case, particularly how Herbert Arnold managed to slip through the cracks after being declared unfit for trial. I mean, how does someone with such a violent background just get a free pass? It's incredibly upsetting to think about the pressure and grief Carol and Ruth's family must have endured, knowing the person responsible was out there living a normal life. And then for him to resurface as a repeat offender — it just breaks my heart. It really makes me wonder about the processes that were in place back then for evaluating mental health and determining someone's fitness for trial. Were there no safeguards to monitor individuals like Arnold after such serious crimes? It's terrifying to think of all the lives that could have been spared with more stringent oversight. It’s a call for all of us to push for better systems to prevent such tragedies from repeating. My heart goes out to the Burke family.
