Hey everyone, I've been thinking a lot about Sheriff Wharton's family and the unimaginable loss they're going through. It's one thing to read about these tragedies from over a century ago, but another to truly grasp the pain left in their wake. It got me curious about the community response back in 1903. Were there memorials or fundraisers for families of officers killed in the line of duty? Given the close-knit nature of small towns back then, I'd imagine the community of Edna rallied together in some way to support those left behind by both Sheriff Wharton and Deputy Brugh. If anyone has insights into how these towns honored their fallen heroes during those times, it would be great to learn more and remember the sacrifice of these brave officers.
