I stumbled across the tragic story of Constable Jeff Davis Barnes, and it really got me thinking about how common firearm accidents might have been during that time. It's gut-wrenching to imagine the shock and sorrow his family must have experienced, especially since firearms were such a normal part of everyday life back then. Barnes had just started his role as constable, and it’s clear from the historical context that he must have been well-regarded by his community, already making a difference in just six months. Does anyone here know if there were any safety protocols in place for law enforcement officers managing firearms in the early 1900s? It's such a sad reminder of how important gun safety is, and how easily tragedy can strike. My thoughts are with his descendants and the community of Bosque County that lost someone who seemed truly dedicated to their service.
