I’ve been thinking about how Officer Carpenter’s death affected his family and colleagues. It must have been such a blow to his wife and stepdaughter, losing him so suddenly and violently. I can’t imagine the grief they must have gone through. It’s been decades, but I wonder if the anniversary still stirs up painful memories for them each year. It’s heartbreaking to consider the empty chair at family gatherings and the milestones he missed. I hope they’ve found some peace and continue to feel the support of the community that clearly held him in high regard. The bond of a law enforcement family is tight, and I’m sure his fellow officers have done their best to honor his memory.
