I was reading through the details of Rita Kay Bertsch Wenzel's tragic death and something that really sticks with me is the sense of duty she felt at her workplace. Imagine being at your high school job, a place supposed to be filled with learning and safety, only for it to become a scene of such tragedy. I can't help but think of how her co-workers must feel, having tried to protect her in that moment. High schools are like second homes for teachers, and this must have left a lasting scar on the whole Langham Creek High community. It's so important that we take these warnings seriously and that schools continue to develop their protocols to keep everyone safe. My thoughts are with Rita's family, friends, and colleagues who had to witness such an unimaginable event. I hope that counseling and support were provided to all those affected, as this kind of trauma can linger for a long time.
