I've been thinking a lot about the role social media played in Juan Julio Guerrero and Zane Lopez's tragic deaths. It's just so disturbing how a few exchanges online can escalate into such drastic, irreversible actions. I read somewhere about the threatening text messages and posts that happened before the shooting. It's unsettling to see how words can quickly turn into violence, especially when young lives are at stake.
The role of Gabriel Garcia kind of highlights this for me. Even though he wasn't physically at the crime scene, his actions online contributed to this unfortunate incident. It makes you wonder about the pressure teenagers face when interacting on these platforms and how easily they can get pulled into negative situations. I can't imagine the pain their families are going through with all this.
It's just a reminder of how crucial it is for us to have open discussions with our youth about the potential dangers lurking online and ways to handle conflicts without succumbing to violence. My heart goes out to Juan, Zane, and their families. They deserved so much more.
