I keep thinking about the friends and family of Lauren and Makayla and how they must be coping with everything that's happened. It's so hard to even imagine the pain they are going through. I mean, Lauren was only 13, just starting her life, and then something so unthinkable happened. From what I've read, she was a bright and loving girl who brought joy to everyone she met. It's such a huge loss for her family and the community as a whole. On a slightly different note, I'm really struck by the bravery of Makayla. Despite being injured herself, she survived and has had to process such a traumatic event. I hope she has a lot of support around her because it's not something you can easily move past. The fact that she was there and must have witnessed everything haunts me. Sending love and strength to Makayla and her family as well as they continue to heal both physically and emotionally.
