I’ve been following the Flanery case for a while now, and something I can’t stop thinking about is the role community perception plays in these tragic incidents. Many neighbors described David as a "kind and helpful person," which seems so at odds with the horrific actions he took. It really makes me wonder about the hidden struggles people face and how sometimes we only see a fraction of their true selves. For Vicki, being a retired teacher and involved in mindfulness practices, I imagine she had touched many lives positively. It’s so surreal to think that someone so dedicated to peace and helping others would meet such a violent end. I feel for the community trying to reconcile these two images. How do we make sense of something so devastating when the surface gave no real warning signs? My heart goes out to their friends and family who are left grappling with this unimaginable loss.

Can we talk about how the fire might have played a role in delaying the investigation? From what I understand, after the tragic shootings, a house fire broke out, which must have complicated things significantly. I know the police and ATF did a thorough job, but I can't help but wonder if the fire destroyed any crucial evidence that might have pointed to other possible angles or motives. It's just so hard to fathom how someone like David, known in the community as kind and helpful, could reach such a breaking point. I feel for Vicki's students and meditation clients, who are surely devastated by losing such a positive influence. It's hard not to wish there were answers beyond the official conclusion, something that could help make sense of this senseless act.
