Christopher Cashen, a 16-year-old student from Haltom City, Texas, was fatally shot on December 15, 2019, in the parking lot of the Rio Vista apartment complex in Haltom City. Witnesses reported hearing gunshots around 2 p.m.; the Tarrant County Medical Examiner recorded gunshot wounds to his upper torso. Christopher was taken to a hospital and later died.

Two teenagers, ages 15 and 16, were arrested and charged in connection with the killing and held at the Tarrant County Juvenile Detention Center; their identities have not been released because they are juveniles. Police have not disclosed a motive or whether the suspects knew Christopher, though reports note all involved lived in nearby Richland Hills. Counselors were made available at Birdville High School for grieving students.

Christopher’s parents, Dean and Terri Cashen, and his eight siblings remembered him as talented and creative, a soccer and music lover who enjoyed concerts and driving with the music up. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Haltom City Police Department.
