Has anyone looked into the role of the financial fraud in Bruce Hummel's convictions? It's intriguing how the forgery of Alice's signature to collect her disability benefits played into the investigation. I'm wondering if the financial angle was the turning point for the authorities when building their case against Bruce. It's unsettling to think about the kind of person who would go to such lengths to cover their tracks. Considering that Bruce kept changing his story about Alice's whereabouts, how much did this financial deceit help to unravel his fabrications? The whole situation raises questions about whether justice was adequately served, especially given that the convictions were overturned and then reinstated. It makes me curious about other similar cases: How often does financial fraud lead to exposure of more serious crimes in missing person cases?
Has anyone else been following the Hummel case closely? I recently read that despite Bruce’s conviction, the lack of Alice’s body has always fascinated me. I mean, it's not uncommon for convictions without a body, but it still feels like there's an entire piece of the puzzle missing. I wonder if there are any efforts underway now that could eventually lead to finding her remains in Bellingham Bay or elsewhere. It must be incredibly frustrating for the family to go so long without that closure. With advancements in technology and forensic methods today, could there be any new avenues to explore that weren't available back in the early 2000s? Would love to hear what others think about the possibilities.
