I keep thinking about the role that bystanders could have played during the tragic events that unfolded on January 23, 2022. It must have been incredibly traumatic for anyone who witnessed the shootings of Juan Carlos Villatoro and Heliodoro Arias Flores at the Ojos Locos parking lot. I wonder what went through their minds at that moment, and if there was anything they could have done differently to prevent such a terrible outcome. Were there warning signs, arguments, or anything that might have escalated the situation? It's important to acknowledge how difficult it must be for bystanders to process what they saw and heard. I hope they have access to support and counseling to deal with any trauma they might be experiencing. My thoughts also go out to the families of Villatoro and Flores during this time. While a conviction has been made, the loss is still immeasurable for them. May they eventually find the peace and healing they seek.
