I've been following Rosendo Benitez's case, and I can't help but think about how his family must be feeling right now. Losing a loved one in such a senseless act of violence is unimaginable. It's upsetting that there were multiple people involved in this heinous crime, and it seems like Rosendo was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
What strikes me is the level of cooperation from Macias-Mora during his interrogation. While it’s somewhat relieving that he helped police identify the others involved, it doesn’t change the fact that he played a direct role in Rosendo's death. I guess it’s hard to see how someone could get involved in something so destructive and not think of the impact it would have on a family.
Just thinking about Rosendo's loved ones trying to make sense of this tragedy has been on my mind a lot—how they cope and what kind of support they're getting from the community. If anyone else is from McAllen, have there been any local initiatives to help the family? Any memorials or ways people are remembering Rosendo? It's in times like these that community support can make a big difference.
