I recently came across the tragic case of John Brooks, the deputized civilian who was tragically killed while serving a warrant back in 1908. What struck me was the sheer bravery it must have taken to confront armed suspects with minimal support or protection. It's hard to imagine the courage and dedication Brooks and officers like him possessed during those times. It's a reminder of the immense risks law enforcement officers faced historically, without the advanced tools and weaponry available today. My thoughts are with Brooks’ descendants and the families of other officers from that era who put their lives on the line in the line of duty. It really makes one appreciate the continuity of service and sacrifice by law enforcement throughout history.
