Hello everyone, I've been thinking a lot about the vigil the community held for Etienne Mathurin and all the other victims of violence in Kansas City that year. It's incredibly moving to see community members come together like that to support the families and honor the memories of those we've lost. It speaks to the power of collective compassion and reminds us that even in the face of unimaginable tragedy, there’s strength in unity. The AdHoc Group Against Crime has done such vital work in organizing these vigils and providing a space for healing. But it’s also a stark reminder of how pervasive the issue of violent crime has become, especially affecting young lives like Etienne’s. We need more conversations about what drives this violence and how we can prevent it. While it doesn’t bring Etienne back, the support from these gatherings hopefully offers a sliver of comfort to his family and those who loved him. They’ll always have the community standing with them, and maybe someday we’ll see the change we desperately need. Anyone else attend the vigil or have thoughts on how community efforts can help curb this tragic trend? Stay safe out there.
