Hey everyone, I’ve been thinking a lot about the Kansas City shootings back in 2017. It’s so sad how these disputes over drugs can escalate into something so deadly. John W. Waldon was one of the victims during that weekend, and I can’t stop wondering about his family and friends, and how they must be coping with his loss. I mean, we hear a lot about the criminal elements involved, but sometimes it feels like we overlook the humans who are torn away from their loved ones. The other guys involved, like Andre L. Barnes and Darren L. Harris, also lost their lives that weekend. It makes me think about how complex and entangled their lives were, dealing with such dangerous situations. I sometimes wonder if there were pivotal moments where all of this could have been avoided, and their lives taken in a completely different direction. Are there ways communities can intervene before it gets to this point? Would love to hear your thoughts on how these situations affect the families left behind and if there are signs that communities need to be more alert about.
