I keep thinking about how much potential Ta’Shun must have had, especially as a member of the Memphis Cowboys. It's unfair how a young life with so much to give could be cut short so violently. It’s hard not to wonder what kind of person he might have grown up to be.
The fact that this happened when kids should have been enjoying their childhoods really sits heavy with me. It's devastating enough to lose someone so young, but knowing that the avenues for safe play and social interaction were limited due to the pandemic makes it all the sadder.
Do any locals know if there have been follow-up events to the "Saving Our Sons" walk? It seems so important to keep talking about how we can protect our youth from such heartbreaking circumstances. It takes a village, and Ta’Shun’s case has shown that more than ever. Hoping for a breakthrough in the investigation soon.
Has anyone else been following the tragic case of Ta’Shun Hardrick? I’ve been thinking a lot about the impact of extracurriculars being canceled during the pandemic. It seems like his love for playing football with the Memphis Cowboys was a huge part of his life. Sports can offer so much—structure, mentorship, a sense of community. With many activities on hold due to COVID-19, I can’t help but wonder if these cancellations contributed to more kids being out on the streets, exposed to dangers they wouldn't normally face.
I hope we can figure out ways to create safe spaces for our kids, especially in areas struggling with violence. No family should ever have to go through something so devastating.
