I've been reading about the tragic case of Officer Clarence Eaton, and something that stands out to me is the incredible courage and sense of duty he showed, even while off duty. It's hard to fathom the devastating impact this senseless act of violence must have had on his wife and the Donora community back then. Given the way news circulated at the time, I can only imagine how Officer Eaton's fellow officers and townspeople learned of his selfless act. His decision to intervene when not in uniform speaks volumes about the kind of person he was — always ready to help others. It’s comforting to think that his bravery did not go unnoticed and has been honored even after all these years. For those who might be interested, what became of the area where the dance took place, Heslep's Grove? Is there anything there to commemorate Officer Eaton's life and sacrifice? His story deserves to be remembered.
