I was reading about Chief Edward W. Fenner’s case, and I can’t help but think about the impact his death must have had on his young children. Growing up without a father, especially one who served his community so honorably, must have been incredibly difficult for them. In small towns like Troy Borough, everyone knows each other, and such a loss would ripple through the entire community. It’s so sad knowing that his children had to navigate their lives with a constant reminder of their father’s bravery and the painful circumstances of his death. It makes me think about how important it is for us to support the families of those who serve and to keep their memories alive, so they know they’re not alone. It's really touching how his sacrifice is still honored after all these years. Thoughts and prayers to his family and all who knew him.
I've been thinking a lot about the bravery Chief Fenner must have shown that night in 1905. Can you imagine confronting a burglar in the dark, probably with so little backup? It's terrifying to think about the situation he faced and the courage it took to try and protect his community even after being shot. It's such a loss not only for his family but also for the small town that depended on him. I wish there were more details on the investigation into this case. It's hard to believe in this day and age there's not a shred of evidence pointing to who did this. My thoughts go out to his descendants, who have had to carry this story with them throughout the years. Every officer deserves to come home safely; remembering Chief Fenner reminds us of the very real risks they face.
