I've been thinking a lot about Detective Ellery Bertram Purnsley, one of the victims of the Market Street Massacre. It's incredibly sad to learn that he was the first Black detective in Chester. It must have been such a significant achievement during those times to break barriers and serve his community. To have his life taken in such a senseless act of violence is a true tragedy. I can't even begin to imagine the impact this must have had on his family and colleagues. It's crucial to remember his contributions and consider how this loss affected progress and community relationships in Chester. Does anyone know if there were any posthumous honors given to him or if there's a memorial in town? I think preserving his legacy is vital.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the Market Street Massacre. It just seems so senseless. I've been reading up on James Simons, and it feels like his story often gets overshadowed by the enormity of the event. From what I gather, Simons was a hard-working man who had a family waiting for him at home that day. It's just so unfair that he lost his life while going about his daily routine, caught in the chaos that none of those involved could have ever anticipated. It makes you wonder about the people who survive such tragedies, carrying with them memories that must be incredibly difficult to cope with. Compassion and support from the community can help, but the scars remain. If anyone has more information on Simons' life or knows about any memorials held in his honor, I'd love to learn more.
