Has anyone else considered how unusual it is for someone to just vanish in Waipio Valley without leaving any trace behind? It's a pretty popular spot, right? I mean, there’s often locals and tourists there, which makes it seem unlikely that no one saw or heard anything on the day John Spillane (or Kevin Devlin, as he was known) disappeared. I'm wondering if it's possible that the area he went swimming in was more remote than I thought, or potentially unsafe? Local residents might have insights into whether certain parts of the valley are known for strong currents or other hazards. Hoping someone here might have more knowledge about how risky it could be to swim there, or if any locals recall that day and noticed anything unusual.
Did anyone else think it was strange that none of John Spillane's personal items were found along the beach or near Waipio Valley? For someone who went for a swim, you'd assume there might be some belongings left behind, like a towel or shoes. It just adds another layer of mystery to his disappearance. The area is usually quite busy with tourists and locals, especially around that time of day. It's like he vanished without a trace. I wonder if anyone out there has seen something they might not have realized was important at the time. If you were in the area back then, try to recall if anything seemed off or if you noticed an unattended bag or items that have now slipped your mind.
It's so puzzling how John Spillane, or "Kevin Devlin" as some of us knew him, just vanished in the Waipio Valley. I’ve been thinking about the tides and currents in that area. Does anyone know if the search included marine experts? Waipio Valley is so isolated and the ocean can be unpredictable. It’s been over 10 years, and no one has seen or heard anything. Those currents can carry anything far away, maybe too far. Wish they had more resources to look into this angle. Every little detail might turn out to be crucial. If anyone has expertise in oceanography or knows if that area’s been studied, it might be another way to look at things.
