I've been following the case of Deputy Christopher Burgert for some time now and keep finding myself reflecting on the impact on his family. I can’t even begin to imagine the pain they must have felt losing him so unexpectedly and violently, especially given his dedication to serving his community. It hits hard to think about his son growing up without his father, knowing how proud Deputy Burgert must have been of him. It’s moments like these that remind me of the sacrifices law enforcement officers make every day. I feel a sense of relief knowing that the community has come together in memory of both Deputies Burgert and Van Kuren, with memorials that not only honor their service but also offer some comfort to those who loved them. It’s incredibly important for the families to see how much their loved ones meant to everyone. I hope the continued remembrance and support offer them some strength. Anyone else in the area have thoughts on how the community can continue to support these families?
