On a Thursday evening in August 2011, Officer Robert Lasso, 31, of the Freemansburg Borough Police Department responded to a disturbance call that ended with him fatally wounded by a shotgun blast to the head. The shot was fired by 46-year-old George Hitcho, the owner of two dogs that confronted Lasso in a yard. The borough police chief was present and witnessed the shooting, then took Hitcho into custody.

Lasso, a seven-year veteran of the force, was rushed to a local hospital and pronounced dead a short time later. He was a husband and father of two and the son of a borough councilman who had formerly served as fire chief. George Hitcho was charged with murder; the prosecution sought the death penalty and the jury convicted him of first-degree murder, after which he was sentenced to death in May 2012.

Does anyone have additional details about the scene that evening or about Robert Lasso’s life in Freemansburg?
