I've been thinking a lot about the role of community in tragedies like the one that happened to Steven Powell and his father, Jeffrey Place. It's so unsettling to realize that neighbors and family members are sometimes aware of a person's erratic behavior, like in Garry Flyte's case, but feel powerless to prevent disaster. I wonder if there are more effective ways that communities can intervene or if there are resources that should be more accessible to help those who struggle with paranoia and substance abuse. My heart goes out to those who knew and loved Steven and Jeffrey. It must be unimaginable to lose two loved ones in such a senseless act. I'm hoping that this case sparks more conversations around mental health support within our communities.
