I came across Kelly Anne Conklin's case recently, and my heart goes out to her family and friends. What an unthinkable tragedy. While reading about her, I was struck by how much she loved her Chihuahua, Diego. I can't help but think of poor Diego—animals form such deep bonds with their humans, and I'm sure he sensed something was wrong that terrible night.
Those who care for Diego are hopefully providing him with comfort since his world likely changed. It's touching how an animal can carry someone's spirit in little ways, reminding loved ones of happier times with Kelly. Her compassion for animals, like Diego, must have been so strong. Under different circumstances, she might have continued to make a difference in the lives of others, human and animal alike. Thinking of all those feeling her absence today and sending them strength.
Does anyone else find it unusual that Kopacz didn't provide a reason for why he killed Kelly? I can't stop thinking about how terrifying it must have been for her. Planning something like this for months and then not saying why, even after confessing, leaves so many unanswered questions. It's unsettling to know that people can hold such dark intentions without giving any clear motive. Whatever his reason was, it doesn't change the tragic loss that Kelly's family and friends have to endure every day without her. I hope they have a strong support system to lean on during such a difficult time.
