I've been following the case of Kyan King and felt compelled to share my thoughts after hearing about the hearing his family attended. It's genuinely distressing to think about what his family must be going through, not just in terms of grieving, but also in their fight for justice alongside the prosecution. It must take immense courage to sit through court proceedings, all while coming to terms with such a senseless loss. I can't even begin to imagine how they felt seeing Duarte plead guilty. I hope the life sentence offers them a bit of solace, knowing that he won't harm anyone else. It's also a stark reminder of the gaps that exist in monitoring those with dangerous previous offenses. Kyan deserved to feel safe, just like anyone else. It's heartbreaking that the system failed him in such a horrific way. Sending love and strength to his family and to the Harrisburg community, which seems to be rallying together. It’s good to see they’re also using their collective grief to address gun violence and protect others. Kyan’s story shouldn’t have ended this way, but it’s moving to see how his legacy might help prevent future tragedies. ❤️
