I’ve been thinking a lot about the people who witnessed the shootout that led to Barry Fields Jr.'s death. I can’t even begin to imagine the trauma and fear they must have experienced being so close to such madness. It's terrifying to think you could be simply out on your porch and end up in the middle of a violent crossfire. When the authorities describe it as a "Wild West shootout," it really strikes me how chaotic and uncontrolled the situation must have been. I hope the witnesses are receiving the support they need to process what they saw and experienced. No one should have to live in fear of such senseless violence in their neighborhood. If you have any thoughts on how communities can better support witnesses or prevent these tragedies, please share.
