Has anyone else looked into the type of sailboat Donnel and Michael were on? I just read that it was a 10-foot Styrofoam sailboat. Does anyone with maritime experience know how safe these boats are for open water like the Gulf? I mean, I get that people might use small boats for day sailing, but the Gulf can get pretty unpredictable, right? Not trying to speculate too much here, but it seems like this could have been a big factor in their disappearance. Would love to hear what others think, especially if you have any similar sailing experience or knowledge about the type of boat they were using.
Did anyone else find it odd that Donnel Sears and Michael Franzese chose a 10-foot Styrofoam sailboat for their trip into the Gulf of Mexico? I mean, that sounds pretty risky, even for experienced sailors. I've been trying to wrap my head around why they would opt for such a small and seemingly fragile vessel. Was it just a spontaneous decision, or were they planning something specific?
I know the authorities did a thorough search and all, but the fact that neither they nor the boat were ever spotted is really puzzling. You’d think there would be some debris or something that washed ashore. Could there have been foul play involved? It seems like such a huge, mysterious gap in the case. I've always wondered if there's more to this story that we just don't know. Anyone else have thoughts on the type of boat they used?
