I was reading about Detective Lieutenant William L. Foulks and couldn't help but think about his poor family. Losing a father and husband so suddenly must have been incredibly difficult, especially back in 1900 when support systems weren't as robust as they are today. I hope his wife, Alpha, found strength during such a challenging time to raise their six children. It’s hard to imagine the grief they carried while enduring the trial and eventual acquittal of Charles Peck. Knowing that Detective Foulks’ name is on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Wall makes me feel he didn’t fall completely into obscurity. His bravery and sacrifice are acknowledged, and that means something. Sending thoughts to his descendants, who hopefully carry forward his legacy of courage.
