I’ve been thinking a lot about Jacob Faulkner and what his story has brought to light. As a community, we need to have an open and honest discussion about the mental health struggles our veterans face and how they often go unnoticed until it’s too late. Jacob served our country and came back to fight battles of a different kind—ones we couldn't physically see.
What truly strikes me is the big role mental health plays in these tragic scenarios. It’s easy to overlook until something like this shakes us all. Jacob’s story is a somber reminder that we need better systems in place to support those who have served. His family and friends remember a different Jacob than what the tragic headline suggests, one full of life and creativity. No veteran should feel like they have to bear such a heavy burden alone.
I sincerely hope we can move this conversation forward in Jacob’s honor. The more we talk about it, the better equipped we’ll be to help others who might be suffering in silence. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved him.
