I recently came across an article about Officer Justin A. Leo, and it's got me thinking about the critical issue of officers not wearing bulletproof vests. While I deeply respect Officer Leo's commitment and courage, I can't help but wonder if a vest could have made a difference that tragic night. It’s profoundly unfair for those who serve and protect to face such risks without every possible safeguard. From what I've gathered, the family and friends of Officer Leo have shown remarkable strength and grace by establishing a scholarship in his name. Their efforts to honor his memory demonstrate how deeply loved and respected he was, and I can't imagine how they continue to navigate this enormous loss. Does anyone have insights on whether departments have updated their policies regarding this since 2017? I’d be interested to know what measures are being taken to protect officers better. Officer Leo’s sacrifice should not go in vain, and hopefully, his legacy will lead to positive changes in law enforcement safety protocols.
