Hey everyone, I find it particularly interesting that John McMeel stopped all communication right after he had established a solid pattern of keeping in touch with his sister. It makes me wonder, was there some event or encounter in Burlingame that might have triggered this sudden silence? I know from reading other cases that sometimes people who are traveling can meet someone or get involved in a situation that they didn't anticipate. Given that he was dependent on wire transfers, he might have been in a vulnerable position financially, too. Has anyone looked into local records from that time to see if there were any unsolved incidents or reports of strangers interacting with locals around Burlingame? Or maybe someone who might remember a traveler with his distinctive burn scar and accent? Just throwing some ideas out there.

Did anyone else find it strange that John's communication with his sister suddenly stopped right after he arrived in the Burlingame area? It's like one day he was just living his life, updating his family, and then—nothing. If he had been traveling for over a year and was consistently in touch, it seems a bit off that he'd stop out of the blue without giving any kind of warning or reason. I wonder if something or someone in Burlingame might have influenced this silence. Has anyone looked into reports of suspicious activities or strangers seen in the area around that time? I know it's been so long, but maybe a fresh look at local records from November '97 might offer a clue?
