I've been thinking a lot about what Charles Hayes' friends and family must be going through, especially after such a sudden and violent loss. In reading about the case, I keep coming back to the neighborhood he lived in on East Fifth Street. I wonder if anyone has discussed what it was like around there leading up to this tragedy. Was there any unusual activity? Could his neighbors have seen something without realizing its importance? Charles was described as a warmhearted man and it’s hard to imagine anyone wanting to hurt him. The idea that no clear motive has surfaced is baffling, and it makes me wonder if maybe someone new in the area or a strange visitor could have been involved. For those who knew Charles or lived in that area during July 2018, have there been any community efforts to keep his memory alive or seek justice? Sometimes even informal community networks can offer support and maybe even turn up crucial information. I truly hope someone comes forward with the missing piece that leads to answers. Charles deserves that, and so do those who are grieving his loss.
