I’ve been following Nysier Terry’s case closely, and I keep thinking about the role our communities need to play in addressing this surge in teen violence. I read that Columbus has been grappling with youth gun violence for a while, and it just feels like there’s a disconnect somewhere—between the resources available to these kids and their actual needs. It's devastating to see lives cut short and families and friends left to pick up the pieces. I wonder what sort of programs are being implemented in schools or local youth centers to steer teenagers away from violence. Mentorship, mental health support, and after-school activities can be so crucial, but are these being prioritized and funded correctly? Nysier’s tragic death shouldn't be in vain. It's crucial to learn from these incidents to create a safer environment where young people can grow and thrive without fear or resorting to violence. Sending my deepest condolences to Nysier’s loved ones and hoping for a stronger, more supportive community response to prevent such tragedies in the future.
