I was reading about Fredy Diaz-Sandoval's case, and I can't help but think about the impact of community resources (or the lack thereof) during that time in Detroit. There were multiple initiatives launched aimed at increasing safety and reducing violence, yet it seems like so many people fell through the cracks. What more could have been done to support those neighborhoods? I wonder if there were any local programs specifically targeting young adults like Fredy who might have been able to offer some sense of safety or direction. It’s sad to think about all the families dealing with loss, but his family’s grief really brings to light how vital community involvement is in tackling these issues. Every step counts when it comes to protecting our communities and preventing more tragedies like this.
