I’ve been following Christopher Best’s case and can’t help but feel deeply for his family and friends. The city’s backlog of unsolved homicides is incredibly overwhelming, and it’s tragic how many families are left without answers or justice. While the Cold Case Unit is doing important work and technology continues to advance, it seems the real challenge is the lack of resources and cooperation from witnesses who might hold the key to solving these cases. I think community involvement is crucial in changing this situation. It’s encouraging to see non-profits like Crime Stoppers and others stepping up, but is it enough? The fear of coming forward with information is real, but I hope people realize the difference that even a small tip can make. It just takes one brave person to come forward to potentially turn the tide in these investigations. If anyone has thoughts on how to encourage more community engagement or has seen effective initiatives in other cities, I’d love to hear about them. Christopher’s family, along with so many others, deserve some peace and closure.
